About me

Hi, I’m Grace Biggs! A visual artist from Portland, Oregon, with a BFA in Studio Art from Oregon State University. My work lives at the intersection of control and expression, built on a foundation of drawing and expanded through painting and printmaking.

Drawing has always been the foundation of my practice. A place where I find focus and control. I’m captivated by stylized realism, and creating an image that has power without direct narrative. Each mark is intentional, and done with purpose, whereas painting opens a different part of my process. It’s where I let instinct take over. Moving quickly, embracing imperfection, and allowing the imagery to evolve intuitively. Through painting, my work becomes less about precision and more about narrative, emotion, and the raw energy of the moment.

Over time, my work has grown more personal and confrontational, exploring vulnerability, intensity, and the tension between what is controlled and what is instinctive. I often describe my current practice with few words, aggressive, and emotional. These qualities reflect my willingness to move beyond perfection, to embrace deliberate mistakes, and to create art that resonates on a visceral level rather than demanding clear explanation.

For me art is a dialogue, between the physical and the emotional, and the artist and the viewer. I’m not interested in offering answers for my work. I want to create work that lingers, that unsettles, and invites reflection or even discomfort, without need for explanation.

For the past 15 years, I’ve been fascinated by tattoos and their power to transform the body into a canvas. What began as fascination quickly grew into passion, and I’ve spent that time observing, collecting, and designing tattoos with the goal of one day becoming an artist myself. I am now training at tattoo school, where I’m developing the technical skills and professional practices needed to create tattoos that are not only visually striking but also safe and lasting. This process has allowed me to refine my designs with clients in mind, focusing on clarity, flow, and how artwork naturally moves with the body. In the winter of 2026, I’ll be opening my books for appointments, and I’m eager to help clients bring their artistic visions to life in a safe and welcoming environment!
